Your Dreams List

Your Dreams List

"Our life is what our thoughts make it." Marcus Aurelius

If you want to put your life on a trajectory towards undeniable, massive success... create a Dreams List.

No matter how "good" or "bad" you have it now, to improve any aspect of your life, you must develop the skill to see your future as you want it to happen... and you've got to feel good about it because you believe it's happening.

When you create your Dreams List, you begin to stretch the limits of what your mind believes is possible, reasonable, and fair.

You develop a new zest for life, new confidence, and see possibilities instead of only problems.

This exercise is powerful because it is from your Dreams List that both the plan and control of your mortgage business (and life) will flow.

You, The Movie Star!

Think of your Dreams List as the script for a movie about your mortgage business or career.

You're the writer and you can take the movie in any direction you choose, filling the script with as many positive experiences and happy clients as you can imagine or desire.

But instead of writing the story of how you've lived your mortgage career so far, write the story of how you'd like your mortgage business/career to be in the future.

No Limits

Write out your Dreams List as if there were no limits.

  • How many loans would you like to close?

  • How much money would you like to net?

  • How much free time would you like to have?

  • What level of client experience would you like to deliver?

  • What type of leader would you like to be or become?

  • What would you like to do or create?

  • What would you like to contribute or put back?

A Magical Life (Yours!)

What would the Dreams List for your personal life look like if there were no limits?

  • What would you like to have or own?

  • Where would you like to go or travel?

  • What type of relationships do you want?

  • What type of friend would you like to be or become?

This Is Always #1
(It's probably NOT what you think)

For success in anything, mindset is always #1 and creating your Dreams List is no different. Be sure to get your energy up and get into strong, positive emotional states.

Why? Because you can't dream of a magical future with a crap attitude and bad feelings! Get your energy up and get FOCU$ED on what you really want out of your life, as if there were no limitations!

Step-By-Step Dreams List

This 6 step process for creating your Dreams List is from the book Super Self: Doubling Your Personal Effectiveness by Charles J. Givens. (The book has been out of print for a while and worth picking up used if you can find it.)

  1. Sometime today, find a quiet time and place where you will not be disturbed for at least 20-30 minutes.

  2. Take out a piece of paper and pen (not digital) and at the top of the page write "My Dreams List" and the current date.

  3. On the next line write: "If I had unlimited time, talent, money, knowledge, self-confidence, and support from my family, here is a list of everything I would like to do with my life."

  4. Now begin to list each of your dreams as it comes to mind. Don't rush. Wait a few seconds or even minutes if necessary for the the ideas to flow. Don't evaluate the possibilities or probabilities of achieving each dream based on your current circumstances. This is a Dreams List, not a shopping list. Let your imagination run free.

  5. Write down everything that comes to mind no matter how silly or outrageous. Later you can edit your Dreams List if you choose. For now, your objective is to get it all down on paper without mental reservations. There are no limits to a Dreams List, so put them all down.

  6. Keep going until you have listed a minimum of at least 25 dreams, no matter what they are. There is no correct length. Just put down everything been rolling around in your mind but that you've never written down before.

What Excites You?

Your Dreams List is not a commitment. It's simply a way to clarify what excites you. It has nothing to do with what is practical. (Your Goals List -- which comes next -- is a commitment.)

Write It Down

Be sure to write your Dreams List with paper and pen. When you handwrite them onto paper you bring them into physical existence with your own hands. A powerful energy comes from writing them down.

Keep It Handy

Keep your Dreams List -- along with your Goals List, project maps, and plans -- in a 3-ring binder. Review and revise your Dreams List once or twice a year.
